Auf der Los Angeles International Auto Show hat Fiat Details zur Rückkehr auf den amerikanischen Markt vorgestellt. Das erste in den USA angebotene Modell ist gleichzeitig die erste Modellvariante des Fiat 500, die mit MultiAir-Triebwerk ausgerüstet ist. Der sympathische Kleinwagen mit der innovativen Technologie bringt nicht nur italienisches Design auf die Straßen der Vereinigten Staaten zurück. Er unterstützt auch das steigende Umweltbewusstsein in der größten Autonation der Welt. Das Segment der kompakten Pkw mit vier Sitzplätzen war zuletzt die am stärksten wachsende Fahrzeugkategorie auf dem US-Markt.

Zu einer Zeit, in der Amerikaner höhere Aufmerksamkeit dem Umweltschutz widmen, bietet der Fiat 500 einen neuen Ansatz mit minimalem Platzbedarf auf der Straße, hoher Verarbeitungsqualität und fortschrittlicher, ökologischer Technologie.“ Die Los Angeles International Auto Show markiert die Rückkehr von Fiat in den US-amerikanischen Markt, von dem sich die Marke 1984 zurückgezogen hatte.
Der in den USA angebotene Fiat 500 ist erstmals mit dem revolutionären MultiAir-Motor ausgestattet, der aus einem Hubraum von 1.4 Litern eine Leistung von 75 kW (101 PS) schöpft. Zu einem Basispreis von 15.500 US-Dollar bietet der Fiat 500 die hohe Sicherheitsausstattung der in Europa seit 2007 vertriebenen Baureihe (u. a. sieben Airbags und ABS serienmäßig) sowie Komfortattribute wie die Bluetooth-basierte Freisprechanlage Blue&Me. Zudem steht auch für die USA-Version des Fiat 500 das Fahranalyse-Programm eco:Drive zur Verfügung, mit dem jeder Fahrer seinen individuellen Benzinverbrauch noch weiter senken kann. Speziell auf die Bedürfnisse des US-Marktes angepasst sind u. a. das Fahrwerk, die Sitze, die für extreme Temperaturen ausgelegte Klimaanlage und der vergrößerte Tank. Darüber hinaus können die amerikanischen Kunden alternativ zum Fünfgang-Handschaltgetriebe eine neu entwickelte Sechsgang-Automatik wählen.
Der Fiat 500 für den US-amerikanischen Markt wird im mexikanischen Toluca (Nähe Mexiko-Stadt) gefertigt, die MultiAir-Triebwerke werden in Dundee (US-Bundesstaat Michigan) produziert. Für den Neustart in den USA hat Fiat ein Händlernetz aufgebaut, das derzeit rund 130 Vertriebspartner umfasst.
